Medical Practice
I have dedicated over 30 years of my life to the field of Bariatric Surgery, performing more than 3,000 laparoscopic procedures. My practice is built on the principles of ethics, scientific research, and adherence to the highest international standards. Through Doctor Obesity Clinic in Karachi, I focus on treating obesity and related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, infertility, and sleep apnea. My mission is to offer compassionate, patient-centered care to help people achieve lasting improvements in their health and quality of life.
Inspiration
In 2013, while working at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in Saudi Arabia, I discovered the transformative power of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery. Witnessing its profound impact on patients’ lives motivated me to dedicate my career entirely to this field. I saw the urgent need for such treatments in Pakistan, which led me to bring this life-changing practice back to Karachi to make it accessible to those in need.
Education
My medical journey began at Sindh Medical College, where I earned my MBBS. I pursued surgical training under The Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland, and became a Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 1999. To expand my expertise, I trained in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric procedures in Egypt, Germany, and Sweden, and earned a diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from Louis Pasteur University, Strasbourg, France.
Career
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of holding leadership roles, including Chief of Surgery at Patel Hospital in Karachi, where I implemented international standards of care, and Consultant Surgeon at Indus Hospital, where I established advanced laparoscopic and cancer surgery programs. At Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital, I performed over 1,000 laparoscopic surgeries. Since 2018, I have continued my work at South City Hospital and Doctor Obesity Clinic, helping patients reclaim their lives through innovative and personalized surgical care.
Weight Loss Journey
For over 20 years, I struggled with my weight. I exercised, followed diet plans, and played squash regularly. While I did lose weight, it always came back—with a little extra each time. Eventually, I reached 100 kilograms, became pre-diabetic, developed high blood pressure, and experienced back strain. That’s when I realized it was time to follow the same advice I give my patients. I underwent Sleeve Gastrectomy, and Alhamdulillah, the results transformed my life. Today, I am healthier, happier, and more confident in helping others embark on their weight loss journeys.
I graduated from Sindh Medical College in 1993 alongside Dr. Tanvir Raazi Ahmad—we’ve been colleagues since our medical training. After completing my house job at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, I specialized in Anaesthesia, training further at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases. Over the years, I’ve gained extensive experience administering anaesthesia for various surgeries, including Cardiac, Neuro, Gynae, Spine, ENT, and Paediatric cases. In 1999, I earned my MCPS certification and worked at institutions like Ziauddin University Hospital and Chiniot General Hospital.
I began assisting with Bariatric Surgeries in 2015 and joined Dr. Tanvir in 2022, having performed hundreds of cases together. Together, we continuously refine our techniques to meet international standards and ensure the safest outcomes for our patients. To stay updated, I actively participate in local and international conferences and workshops, incorporating the latest research into my practice.
We are committed to providing you with the highest quality of care. Thank you for trusting us to be a part of your weight loss journey!
