It has been more than a year since the COVID-19 pandemic. As the number of cases has increased in various parts of the world, the world has experienced a global lockdown. Staying at home has posed a challenge for physical activities.  A sedentary lifestyle has become a common practice for most people. Unhealthy dietary habits and lack of adequate workouts have led to an increased prevalence of weight gain and obesity. Physical activities are essential to maintain good and healthy body weight. This is where home workouts come in.

Moreover, maintaining a healthy weight and body build is not limited to outdoor activities; instead, it balances the proper dietary choices and physical workouts. There are various ways one can acquire and practice different types of exercises while staying indoors. Some of these home workouts are described below:

Ways to avoid a sedentary lifestyle and weight gain

Go out for a Walk often

Staying at home doesn’t mean that you spend the whole day sitting in one place. You should take breaks and take a round around the house. WHO recommends 150 minutes of moderate-intensity and 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity physical activity per week or a combination of both. This can be achieved while staying indoors as well.

Take a walk for a minute or two every half hour. Avoid sitting continuously at one place for a more extended period of time.

If you have stairs inside your house or apartment, make a habit of using them frequently. They are the most efficient way of maintaining fitness. Avoid using the lift, instead use stairs at least one or two times per day.

If you have a ground or a park nearby, go out for a regular walk for at least 20-30 minutes daily.

Go out for a walk, jog, or ride a bicycle. Get the fresh air. It will boost your mental health.

Practice at home gym exercises

Since the lockdown, most of the gyms and training centers have closed. But this is not the only means of physical activity. You can practice some of the gym exercises at home as well. There are various ways of getting proper training through videos on YouTube. You can simply look for your choice and start your workout.

Dance on the floor

Dancing is fun and an exciting way of exercise. Play the music in the background and dance on the floor. Dancing involves muscles of both upper and lower limbs. It causes the release of endorphins in your brain, which boosts the mood and makes you happy. Let go of your excess weight by dancing!

Set your daily reminders

Regular and daily reminders enable you to remember your aim and work on it. While staying at home when you are feeling lazy, these reminders help you stick to your plan and remain active. Plan your daily routine and set a schedule in your time for a daily walk, exercise and workout.

Clean up your house

Household work is the best way to keep your house well maintained and remain busy doing something productive. It involves regular movement of hands and stretching of different muscles of the body. Doing laundry and walking up and down the stairs makes you sweat after continuous muscular activity. Make a habit of doing benefit to both yourself and your house!

Reward yourself

¬†Keeping oneself motivated for your goal on a daily basis is a hard thing to do. Make a habit of rewarding yourself every time. This is one of the ways to make yourself get going. You can try different ways like calling a friend, making your favorite dish, or watching a favorite TV show, etc. Try making your in-home workout activities fun and interesting for yourself so that you don’t lose interest in what you are doing.
